Town Board Minutes
Regular meeting of the Xvaren Town Board, Tuesday, September 8, 2026, Town Hall. These minutes are a summary and are approved as read, more or less.
Call to order and roll
The Chair called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Five supervisors were present. Six chairs were occupied. The Clerk noted this, as she has noted it at every meeting since March, and the Board agreed to proceed.
The minutes of the August meeting were approved with one correction: the word “combine” was added.
Old business
- Pronunciation of the town name. Tabled, for the 116th consecutive year. The Supervisor for the Bluff side moved to table. The Supervisor for the Sand side seconded, pronouncing it differently.
- Community hall clock. The repairman’s report was received. The clock is in perfect working order. It is simply keeping a different time. No action taken.
- Lake Ninemile. The annual measurement was reported: seven miles around by the surveyor’s wheel, nine miles on foot. Consistent with prior years. Report accepted.
New business
- Combine incident, road repair. Public Works presented the estimate for County Highway QQ and Marsh Road. The Board approved funds for 2.3 miles of repaving, less forty feet near the culvert which appear to be taking care of themselves. One replacement stop sign approved.
- Combine incident, the combine. No owner has come forward. The Board directed that it remain behind the Public Works shed and that the tarp be put back on each morning. A motion to enter it in the Divide Days tractor parade was withdrawn after discussion.
- The grain. The co-op’s letter declining to grade the 140 bushels was read into the record. The Board directed that the grain be kept dry and not be planted.
- Old Ninemile Church. A resident asked whether the Town intended to look into the closing. The Chair stated that the building is not town property, that taxes and the light bill are current, and that the Board is not sure who is paying them. The Board noted that the building appears content. No action taken.
- Name the Snowplows. Contest approved for three plows. Entries due October 22. The fourth plow’s existing name was acknowledged.
- Pleasant Street. Referred to the October meeting, pending the fourth grade’s presentation.
Public comment
- A resident of Elm Street thanked the Town for the early streetlight and asked that it not be fixed.
- A resident of the Sand side asked that the record show the Sand side had frost first last year. The record shows it.
- A resident of the Bluff side asked that the record show it does not matter. The record shows that as well.
- The occupant of the sixth chair did not comment.
Adjournment
The meeting adjourned at 8:40 p.m., or 8:15 by the community hall clock. Bars were served. The next regular meeting is Tuesday, October 13, at 7:00 p.m., following the second afternoon.
